Your December 09' newsletter is here, and this month we will be discussing Proper Club Grip.* With the colder weather and potential decrease in play, now is a great time to review some fundamentals.  Many golfers over the course of the season tend to get sloppy with their grip.  One common fault is splitting the grip. This is when you drop your hand too low on the handle in relation to the upper hand. Your hands appear to be "split" or separated from each other. This allows the lower hand to overpower the upper hand through the impact zone causing the clubhead to "flip" through impact with erratic shot results. Follow this grip key to ensure you have the Proper Club Grip:

Whether you use an interlock or an overlap style grip, make sure to fold your lower hand palm over the base of your upper hand thumb so the hands are unitized rather than separated.

A helpful check for this proper grip is that as you look down, you should just be able to see the seam on your golf glove at the top of your upper thumb, rather than the entire upper thumb. Check the image to view the correct grip for a right handed player.
