Your May 08' newsletter is here, and this month we are continuing the discussion on putting.* Last month we discussed proper grip and putting fundamentals, and this month we will discuss how to make a smooth putting stroke.
The tip to obtaining a smooth stroke is practicing the "putter tap" trick:
- Determine the line you want the putt to start on.
- Take your normal putting stance.
- Count "ONE" as you lower the putterhead and gently tap the ground behind your ball.
- Count "TWO" as you then raise the putter back off the ground about an inch.
- And count "THREE" as you tap the ground again and immediately start your backstroke.
This one-two-three tap sequence creates a cadence that gives you the right frame of mind and correct sense of rhythm to execute a smooth and symmetrical backstroke and forward stroke on every putt.
By combining last month's tips along with the "putter tap" tip your putting is sure to improve. Remember, in order for the tips to be effective you need to practice. So practice and make more putts.
Now go out and play better golf!
