Shaft Trimming

2008 SHAFT TRIMMING GUIDE

SHAFT TRIMMING INTRODUCTION

Our trim charts offer a simple way to trim the shafts listed.  First look at the chart on the next two pages of this page manual and determine the trim letter designation. Wood shafts are listed by trim letter designations from A-ZD, iron and putter shafts are listed by trim letter designations from AA-VV. Each trim letter designation may be followed by a number designation for a trimming note.  These notes allow you to make trimming changes for such factors as bore depths in woods or irons. If a number designation is not present after a letter designation, then these trim notes do not apply. Once you have your letter designation and note, proceed to the trimming chart that follows to determine the trimming values for the shaft.

After tip trimming (if any), trim the butt end to the desired playing length.

Add the insertion-depth of the hosel to the length of ferrule then subtract this length from 4” to obtain tip trim length.  Trim to final playing length from butt.  Example, hosel bore-depth of 1.375” with 0.50” ferrule equals total of 1.875” – subtract from 4.0” ; tip trim 2.125” .

TRIMMING NOTES

1. For M1 metal woods add 1 1/2" tip trimming, for M2 metal woods add 1" tip trimming, for blind bore add 1/2" tip trimming, for through bore do not add to tip trimming. (Applies only to those shafts which have a Trim Note 1 next to the letter code)

2. For non-bore through iron heads, trim 1" additionally from the tip. (Applies to True Temper's TT Lite R&S iron shafts only!)

3. For fairway woods, tip trim 1" (Applies to Aldila NV, NVS, DVS and VS Proto woods only!)

4. Do not tip trim more than 3” off the tip (applies to Select New Image woods and junior composite woods only!)

5. Tip trim 1” less than stated to achieve a softer sub-flex and for a firmer sub-flex add an additional 1” tip trimming. (This applies only to the Cadence 65 and 75 High Launch shafts only!)

Bore Designation Identification

If you are working with wood heads made by other manufacturers, it may be necessary to identify the bore designation in order to trim the shaft correctly. The bore designation is identified by the bottom of bore to ground line measurement (BBGM). The easiest way to identify the BBGM to establish the bore designation is to measure the raw length of the shaft you are using. Next, insert the shaft into the hosel and measure the total length of the club from the ground in the playingposition. If you subtract the raw length of the shaft from the total length of the club, this will determine the BBGM. If the BBGM is closest to 0.5", this is considered a blind bore designation. If the BBGM is closest 1", then this is classified as a M2 design. Lastly, if the BBGM is closest to 1.5", this is considered a M1 design. Now you should able to use the trim notes to correctly trim the shaft.

HYBRIDS Special Note:  For tip trimming and length on all hybrids, use the weight column to determine the proper tip trimming and length rather than the number engraved on the sole. Not all hybrids will weigh the same, thus special attention must be made for this category. Hybrids made by other manufacturers other than Hireko may use different diameter shafts than 0.370”, thus use the correct shaft size as well.
